Kanye West and Jimmy Kimmel discussed their Twitter feud during Yeezus's Oct. 9 appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live." In case you don't recall, Kanye trashed Jimmy on Twitter after the talk show host aired a skit featuring kids re-enacting a portion of the rapper's infamous BBC 1 interview. However, the two men actually played nice during the interview, and Jimmy let Kanye go on another epic rant about how the fashion industry has disrespected him and his leather jogging pants.
Kanye is upset about the "classism" he's experienced in the fashion industry as he's desperately worked to become the next big designer. "Who do you know is known more for clothes than me?" he asked Kimmel. However, Kanye answered this question himself during another portion of the interview when he said that he wants to be the next Ralph Lauren.
Kanye West just can't believe that the fashion world is full of so many awful snobs, but yet he seems desperate to impress these despicable people who have embraced a shallow industry full of vanity and other ugliness. Kanye thinks that the world of fashion is all about art, but it really is about classism in a way—most designers want to create ridiculously expensive clothing that impresses the elite.
The rapper criticized these types of people who spend $5,000 dollars on a bag to say that "Oh, we're better than you," but he's one to talk—he once designed a pair of $6,000 shoes and used Kim Kardashian as a walking advertisement for them. Kim also enjoys showing off her expensive wardrobe and accessories on Twitter, flaunting her wealth in front of millions of followers who could live for a few months off of the money that she spends on one hideous fur vest. So are he and Kim really any better than the people whom he despises?
Kanye West kept telling Jimmy Kimmel that he's a genius, and he admitted that he knows that "you're not supposed to say that about yourself." And there's a reason for this—if you truly are a creative genius, you don't need to say it. You let your work speak for itself. Perhaps Kanye's problem is that his fashion designs aren't saying the right thing to the world.
Kanye either needs to accept that he can't be good at everything, or he needs to quit whining and keep working on making it as a designer. The rapper claims that he's a genius, so why not break the mold by trying to make a name for himself without the help of the uppity snobs in the fashion industry? He could pay to have his designs produced (which he's already done, by the way), and he could have a fashion show in one of his videos. And why is he bothering to try to impress the people who don't care about him instead of focusing on those who will embrace him? Perhaps it's because he's just used to getting his way and having people grovel at his feet, much like Kimmel did—instead of standing by his skit that poked fun at Kanye's rant about leather pants, Kimmel claimed that he only did it to see kids curse.
Other gems from Kanye's interview rant include his claim that Kim Kardashian deserves a star on the Walk of Fame and these words: "I've never done a publicity stunt in my life." But couldn't appearing on a talk show be seen as publicity stunt? A big part of being a celebrity is seeking publicity, so why do so many stars try to claim that they don't want attention?
Kanye did make some good points about the importance of following your dreams, but his ego always overshadows anything he says that's actually meaningful. So do you think that he's really a genius, or is his big head keeping him from being a real artist and innovator?
