It was a beautiful day for a race. Temperatures reached the 50's and the sun was out at times on Sunday, January 29, 2012. The TLC Groundhog Run was on, but the weather didn't matter.
The Groundhog Run is entirely underground. Ran in the Hunt Midwest Subtropolis, the Groundhog Run never sees the light of day until a turnaround on the course that passes by a door that opens to the outside. The caves are consistently 65 to 70 degrees, no rain, no wind and relatively flat.
If you want to set a personal record, this is your race.
The event went off without a hitch and below is the top 3 for the men and women's 5k.
Top 3 women
- Sydney Messick - 17:29.6
- Katie Coomer - 18:30.3
- Megan VerMaas - 19:34.0
