Joe Walsh kicked off his own radio show for racial slur

Joe Walsh kicked off his radio show for using racial slur on June 19, 2014

Joe Walsh, the former Republican Illinois representative in Congress, was taken off his radio program on WIND-AM radio in Chicago for using racial slurs on the radio waves, according to the Huffington Post on Friday. Walsh has hosted “The Joe Walsh Show on the conservative radio station for about a year-and-a-half. Walsh turned to a radio talk-show career shortly after being ousted from politics when he was defeated by Tammy Duckworth in a contentious political contest.

Taking to social media’s Twitter, Walsh complained about being taken off the air by the station’s management. Walsh claims that he used several epithets during a talk about the Redskins’ controversial name. During that segment, he used the “n-word.” On Twitter, Walsh’s response was that WIND-AM radio keeps cutting him off. He wrote: “The station keeps cutting me off. I don’t know why.”

Moments later, he tweeted: “And here comes to the General Manager. It appears I can say Redskins, which is supposedly offensive, but when I say other words, commercial.” Then, minutes later, he tweeted to his Twitter followers, “If Redskins is just like the ‘n-word’ why can I say Redskins on-air without being dumped out into a commercial?” And the tweets, which he keeps posting regularly during his radio program, kept coming. Sometime later, he wrote: “Just got kicked off the air until further notice. Tried to have honest discussion about racist terms and management censored my language.” Walsh made his final, blatant point by posting his last tweet on the subject which said:

Found out if I said Redskins or Cracker or Redneck Bible Thumper, I could stay on. But if I said Nigger or Spick, they cut me off.

Walsh has been controversial on the radio waves before, according to NBC. Previously he has ruffled the feathers of gay rights activists. The extremely outspoken radio host has also encouraged Americans to break the law regarding protests of Obamacare which was found upsetting by some. Reportedly, Walsh has been severely criticized for his demeanor during the 2012 election for continuously making sexist attacks toward his female opponent who ultimately won the election.

His commentaries on President Barack Obama have been very negative. Comments about the president have often been about race. He caused a stir in 2012 when he said that Democrats want Hispanic Americans to be dependent on the United States government – just like they have gotten African Americans dependent on the government. He has also claimed that President Obama was only elected because of his race.

Joe Walsh has obviously put a lot of time and effort into his controversially conservative radio show on WIND-AM. His program is aired from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. every weekday in Chicago. He has been on WIND-AM since early 2013.
