According to a Thursday story in Hot Air, Vice President Joe Biden made one of those gaffes which consists of telling the truth when it is not convenient to do so, which is most of the time in the Obama administration. In this instance, at a Generation Progress event, Biden touched on the subject of hope and change, to recall a phrase often used in the 2008 campaign. Biden seemed to acknowledge that there has not been a whole lot of either in the ensuing six years.

“Look folks, this is within our power to change. Everybody says because we tried in ’08 and it didn’t happen, it’s not possible,” Biden said. “Wrong. We’ve gone through these periods before.”

Biden continued: “But folks, this is totally within our power. Change. Change for the better is absolutely possible and I believe it’s close to inevitable if you’re the drivers of it.”

Biden’s admission of total, abject failure is remarkable for a number of reasons. The administration he serves has been the driver of change since President Obama was sworn in in January, 2009. And, if fact, there has been plenty of change and none of it for the better. From chaos abroad to economic malaise at home, the change wrought by the Obama administration has been for the worst.

Biden has been gaffe prone throughout his political career, as notes, but people have been paying attention since he ascended from the Senate to the vice presidency. He has served as comedy relief for an otherwise depressing Obama presidency. He also is a walking, talking argument against impeachment, with all due respect to Sarah Palin.

Hot Air suggests that Obama and Biden have given up doing anything more for the next two and a half years. This is ironic because both men engaged in just about every political dirty trick in the book to get the second term that they fought so long and hard for. Neither man is inclined to resign and allow someone else who might want to do something with the presidency take over. It is shaping up to be the longest lame duck presidency in the history of the Republic, perhaps an argument for impeachment.
