CBS talk show celebrity Jimmy Kimmel has a fondness for creating viral sensations. It is now being revealed that he was the hidden mastermind behind a video that spread like the fire featured in it.
USA Today reported on Tuesday that Kimmel revealed that his show was responsible for the video on YouTube entitled ‘Worst Twerk Fail EVER’, wherein a young woman, Caitlin Heller, falls onto a glass table and catches fire from a candle while doing the popular dance known as twerking.
‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ revealed Monday that stuntwoman Daphne Avalon, who has worked on TV, film sets and video games such as ‘Call of Duty’, was the actual woman in the video.
The show brought Avalon on for a faux follow-up interview as Heller. Kimmel asked her why the video ended suddenly, as many wondered, and then played the rest of the clip.
The clip showed that after Avalon’s pants caught on fire, Kimmel himself entered the room with a fire extinguisher and put out the flame.
“To the conspiracy theorists on the internet who thought it was fake, you were right. We made it up,” Kimmel said.
Avalon kept quiet about being in the video for two months despite numerous interview requests from media and concerns from her family and friends.
“My ex-boyfriend from high school sent me this worried Facebook message,” she said on Monday night’s show.
The video was viewed nearly 10,000,000 times and featured in major media publications.
Kimmel uses videos for pranks on his show every once in a while. During Halloween he asked parents to send in videos wherein they trick their children into believing that they have eaten all of the candy.
Avalon was unharmed in the video and continues to do stunt work.
