Jim Wallis says Fox News 'assassin of Obama's religion'

Liberals sometimes says the strangest things.

On November 24, Obama spiritual advisor Jim Wallis accused Fox News of assassinating President Obama's "religion".

During a radio interview, Wallis said:

Fox News has been the assassin of Obama's religion. I was on Fox News last week and they asked, "How do you explain that 18% of the American people now believe that he's a Muslim. I said, " Are you serious?" and they said yes.

The poll, conducted in August by the Pew Research Center, showed nearly one in five believe President Obama is a Muslim.

Wallis then blamed the cable news network for the outcome of the poll and again accused Fox of "religious assassination":

I said because you've been planting the seed of doubt 24/7  in people's minds. It's been a religious assassination of Barack Obama by the far right. I've known for ten years, he's been a Christian - a conversion. Nothing wrong with being Muslim at all, but he's not. And so, what they're trying to do is disconnect him and his values from the American people.

Right.  Fox News is so powerful they forced Barack Obama to sit in a church under a pastor preaching hatred of America for 20 years.  Fox News also forced the President to tell an audience in Cairo, “if you actually took the number of Muslim Americans, we’d be one of the largest Muslim countries in the world”.

And apparently, Fox News is so powerful, it forced then candidate Barack Obama to slip and refer to his "Muslim faith" in an interview with George Stephanopolous.  Talk about the power of cable news!

This has to be good news to Rush Limbaugh.  At the time, Kirsten Powers wrote a piece at The Daily Beast claiming people had this perception of the President because of a remark Limbaugh made on his radio program.

But Wallis wasn't finished.  He went on to add the obligatory claim of racism:

And to be blunt there wouldn't be a Tea Party if there wasn't a black man in the White House. There wouldn't be a Tea Party. That's a fact.

But Wallis offered nothing to back up his claim.

When asked about the recent election results, Wallis said:

...a journalist asked me how I reacted to the election results and I quote the Proverb, "Without a vision, the people perish, "  and when people feel like they're perishing, they're angry and afraid. So the economy, lack of jobs, lack of success, is indeed the real issue here. But  along side that, there's been a very calculated right wing media machine response trying to discredit Obama. He wasn't born here, he was  born someplace else, so basically you have an ideological food fight

Perhaps Wallis was trying to be profound in a cutesy NPR-ish sort of way, but the verse he quoted - Proverbs 29:18 - reads in full:

Where [there is] no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy [is] he. (KJV)
Different versions render the verse in various ways, but the meaning seems to differ from Wallis' interpretation.  The word "vision" in the verse refers to "divine revelation"; in other words - wisdom from God, not blind obedience to the earthly "wisdom" of an elected official.  Looking at the verse in that context, one sees a much different meaning.

Wallis is correct when he says there is an "ideological food fight", but it has nothing to do with religion, or any so-called "right wing media machine".  After all, one could just as easily point to a "left wing media machine" with far more accuracy.  The fight he speaks of is the age-old struggle between freedom and tyranny.

The policies pursued by this Administration are foreign to many Americans because they go against everything we have been taught to believe about our nation, and we have a President who campaigned on the promise of "spreading the wealth around," a concept more at home in countries like Cuba and Venezuela than the United States.  Until now.

Since January 2009, America has experimented with socialism - and rejected it.

And Jim Wallis simply doesn't like it.

Figuring that Fox News is the only major media outlet still running with the Muslim storyline, Wallis kind of hit the nail on the head. It has nothing to do with freedom vs. tyranny, its just another way Fox News is trying to put doubt and misinformation into the minds of Americans.

Give me a break. Thank God there is a Fox News although if the left have their way it will be abolished. Years of bashing Bush didn't seem to bother the likes of people like Wallis or the MSM.
If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck then it's a ......
Obama has did nothing but divide this country and the loony left refuse to see it.

Yeah because trusty worthy news comes from a news outlet with a direct line to the GOP head office.

I forgot to mention Wallis is Liberation Theologist, the same as Jeremiah Wright. which can't quote the HOLY BIBLE correct to save their butts. People like them need to find a real job instead of working to fool the sheeple.

I agree with you Larry! I hate when people misquote works of fiction. It ruins the whole narrative for me and it becomes harder to believe.

I'd be masterbating in the streets if we had a Muslim President. Huge step forward for a country to realize it doesn't matter at all. Like every other country in the world.

*By every country in the world, I mean Free world. There makes more sense. Did you vote for Pro-life? I did! On Election day and every Sunday. Every Sunday at church I read off 1000 random names to signify all the babies aborted that week. People seem to love it.
