Despite another year of tough competition for scarce arts funding and donations, the Bakersfield Jazz Workshop will once again be offering monetary scholarships to deserving jazz music students in the Bakersfield area. The awards will be presented on May 28, 2014, at a special and free clinic/concert by the Ton Trio II with Aram Shelton at Le Corusse Rouge.
For the last several years, the BJW has given awards ranging from $500 to $1000 that the students may use for private lessons, jazz music camps, or to offset their college expenses. According to Steve Eisen, the CEO and founder of the BJW, students need to complete their applications for the awards and return them to him no later than 11:59 p.m. on May 21, 2014.
Past winners have gone on to study jazz at Cal State Bakersfield, Cal State Northridge, NYU, and the Berklee College of Music, to name just a few. Click on the slideshow above to see some of the winners from previous years.
