During disasters, everyone, even preppers, will be under increased stress. Without strong, healthy cardio-respiratory systems, heart attacks and strokes will be more likely to occur. Heart attacks and strokes are devastating enough during normal times. During disasters, when help is not immediately available, heart attacks and strokes can become much more deadly.
If preppers do not leady healthy lifestyles, they also could develop diabetes. Disasters can cause diabetic preppers to suffer medication shortages and wounds that could be life threatening.
If preppers have not seen their dentists in years, the chances of tooth infections are increased. If there is anything worse than a toothache when a dentist is available, it is a toothache when a dentist is not immediately available.
Preppers who do not schedule yearly physical exams have less chance of detecting, controlling, or eliminating medical problems before these problems become serious or even fatal. During a disaster is not a good time to discover a medical problem that cannot be given appropriate medical help quickly.
We live in a society that makes it easy to eat in an unhealthy manner. For example:
- Corporate farms produce food that is unhealthy.
- Fast food is sweetened so that it tastes good.
- Vending machine food and frozen dinners also are fast and convenient, but they are unhealthy.
- High sugar soda drinks are as available as water.
Preppers who have will power and persistence will eat right and will be healthier because of their determined efforts.
Our TV centered society encourages us to become sedentary fans who revere professional athletes. It is time for us to revere our own physical potential instead and to take responsibility for attaining it.
