As part of my continuing coverage of I-CON I am interviewing the gaming guests. The Miskatonic River Press (MRP) gang will all be there and graciously took some time to speak with me. I'm a big fan of MRP, having purchased Oscar Rios' monograph from Ripples from Carcosa. In this installment I interview Oscar, staff writer, associate editor and Vice President of Miskatonic River Press. Oscar has been writing and running RPGs since 1983, when dinobots roamed the earth. He started writing scenarios for Chaosium in 1995 and became part of Miskatonic River Press in 2008. Oscar has written five monographs for Chaosium and appear in many others.

MT: What is your gaming specialty and what will you be speaking about at I-CON?

OR: Horror Role Playing games. I will be speaking about how to write horror scenario/stories and how small publishers can manage an international staff.

MT: Have you been to I-CON before?

OR: I have been regularly going to I-CON for more than 10 years.

MT: Are you unveiling anything new/special at I-CON this year?

OR: I hope to debut a new scenario called “Blood and Glory”, which will be included with pre-orders of MRP’s upcoming Cthulhu Invictus book, “The Legacy of Arrius Lurco”.

MT: What audience will find your work most appealing?

OR: Call of Cthulhu has always been at its core a form of science fiction, with a fair amount of horror blended into it. Science and history have always been part of the foundation of the genre of material MRP produces. Gamers who enjoy science and history usually enjoy the Call of Cthulhu game, and over the years many players have discovered the game at I-CON (usually at my table during one of my games).

MT: Is there any event at the con that you are particularly interested in seeing yourself?

OR: I will be running 2 games, talking in a pair of seminars and appearing at the awards banquet.

MT: Where can we find you at I-CON?

OR: I will be running 2 games, talking in a pair of seminars and appearing at the awards banquet.

MT: What other conventions will you be attending?

OR: I attend Ubercon, I-CON, DEXCON and DREAMATION regularly.
