Jeff Eagar and his brother Chris are the producers and hosts of the Gemini Nominated travel-adventure series "Which Way To..." The Newfoundland natives recently completed a coast-to-coast tour of Canada for the upcoming web series "The Great Canadian Adventure Tour," which highlights the uniqueness of communities, towns, cultures, tastes and sounds in each province. In this interview, Jeff will tell us more about this project.
Cendrine Marrouat: Hello Jeff, thank you for answering my questions. Why did you decide to create the Great Canadian Adventure Tour?
Jeff Eagar: Well, I’ve been living away for 17 years. I just moved back and I think that I can see just how special and how wonderful Canada is. I almost see it through a foreigner’s eyes, even though I was born here and grew up here, since I’ve been away so long. I can see how fabulous the country is, how green, how safe, how friendly, how hospitable. And so I wanted an excuse to get myself a trip across the country, and we came up with this idea and decided that Tourism Canada and the provinces might be interested in promoting it to the rest of the world. And so we went ahead and pitched it and everyone liked it.
CM: What have you discovered about Canada that you did not know?
JE: I have discovered many new places across Canada that are exciting, unique, culturally vibrant and fun! Like surfing a stationary wave on the St Lawrence river in Downtown Montreal, the beauty of Manitoulin Island, the Speedway in Saskatoon, Resoors Ranch in southern Saskatchewan, the Testicle Festival (culinary event) in Calgary, Summerville Pyramid in Kelowna and many other things. Plus, the people in every place are interesting and fun.
CM: What is your favourite spot?
JE: My favorite place was the maritime provinces — Nova Scotia, Cape Breton and PEI. The people are the friendliest in Canada and the scenery is beautiful. My biggest surprises were the beauty of Saskatchewan, the beauty of Vancouver city, and how diverse the country is. It truly is one of the most dynamic, beautiful and friendly countries in the world!
CM: Any favorite moment?
JE: A few of my favorite moments were playing cowboy at Rafters Ranch in Kananaskis, Alberta; feeling the energy in the Pyramid in the Summerville Pyramid Winery in BC; our crazy mud fight in Bay of Fundy, Nova Scotia; and a helicopter ride over Niagra Falls — just to name a few of the many amazing things we've done on this adventure across Canada.
CM: How have Canadians reacted to this web series so far?
