Innocent until proven guilty......Even for Harry Reid.

By now, most folks who subscribe to the NRA- ILA alerts will be aware of the title/headline:
Harry Reid May Call for Vote on Gun Control Legislation: Says, "We Need Some More Votes"

First of all, if one REALLY reads the alert, follows the links it becomes very noticeable that the NRA ultimately ends up using itself as the reliable source. We have seen this before.

“We need some more votes,” Reid said, after a closed-door meeting with fellow Senate Democrats. “But it may be good to bring this up just to send the American people another message about how 85 percent of the American people can agree on one thing, but it doesn't mean a thing to the Republicans here.”

Where is the documented proof that Reid actually said this? So far, we only have the NRA’s word.

For the moment, we will give the NRA the benefit of the doubt and accept what they say is true. This begs the question as to just WHICH SENATE BILL on universal background checks is Reid going to put up for a floor vote. As of this writing, no such Senate bill appears to exist. No such bill appears on either committee or floor calendars. The only bill, which is not a bill at all, that deals with ‘universal background checks’ WAS the Manchin-Toomey AMENDMENT to S 649, which was defeated on the floor April 2013. With all of the Amendment failures, Reid pulled S 649 from the floor of the Senate because it was headed for a massive defeat.

It’s certainly possible that Reid could resurrect the Manchin-Toomey amendment, dust it off, remove all the amendment wording and resubmit it to the Senate under a NEW senate bill number.

You can contact your U.S. Senators and your U.S. Representative by using the “Write Your Lawmakers” tool at www.NRAILA.org. You may also contact your Senators by phone at (202) 224-3121, and your Representative by phone at (202) 225-3121.

Why on earth would anyone want to contact their Congress Critters on something that doesn’t exist at the moment? To do so would be joining the NRA in ‘Tilting at Windmills.
