Indiana National Guard Soldier Staff Sgt. Randall Lane, 43, succumbed to a non-combat illness at Camp Phoenix, Afghanistan, on Friday Sept. 13, 2013.
Indiana’s Governor Mike Pence and Indiana National Guard Adjutant General, Maj. Gen. Umbarger released the information to news sources this morning.
The official Department of Defense report has not been released.
Deployed with the 1438th Transportation Company, Staff Sgt. Lane served as a motor company operator.
The 1438th Transportation Company is scheduled to come home before the end of the year.
Information regarding funeral services for this Soldier have not been released by his family.
