The Inter-Press Sevice (IPS) is reporting that the head administrator of the Mexican Superintendency of Tax Administration, Raul Diaz, has confirmed that his government is building a wall in the state of Chiapas, along the Mexican/Guatemalan border.
The official reason is to stop contraband from coming into Mexico, but as Diaz admitted: “It could also prevent the free passage of illegal immigrants.”
According to Mexico's National Commission on Human Rights, 500,000 people from Central America cross into Mexico illegally every year.
Just as Mexican authorities have opposed the construction of a fence by the U.S., along our border with their country, Mexico is now receiving a great deal of criticism from the Guatemalan government.
The executive coordinator of the National Bureau for Migration in Guatemala, Marila de Prince, told a local newspaper: “It is not a correct measure being taken by the Mexican government.”
Erick Maldonado, executive secretary of Guatemala's National Council on Migrants said: “We are watching the Mexican government's initiative with concern because the migrants are in a situation of highest vulnerability, as demonstrated by the massacre in Tamaulipas, where five Guatemalans died.”
Maldonado said the wall “is going to make the migrants' situation worse, because to meet their needs they are always going to find blind points where there are no migration or security controls, which implies greater risks."
Vice-President of Guatemala, Rafael Espada, said: “The walls are not the solution to the problems.”
The Catholic Church has been highly critical of U.S. treatment of illegal aliens, and one priest in Central America used the news of the Mexican wall to take another shot at the American people.
Father Francisco Pellizari, of the Casa del Migrante told IPS: “The dramatic increase in the cost of 'polleros' (human traffickers) and the corruption of the authorities is the result of the walls the United States plans to build and has built along the border. We can transpose the Guatemala case to this situation and the results will be the same.”
Peliizari said border walls “are supposedly intended to halt migration, but that hasn't happened. Instead they have triggered an economic hemorrhage and a shift in the migratory flow to inhospitable routes that lead to thousands of deaths.”
Of course, the U.S. press has completely ignored the story…They excoriate Americans for their desire to simply defend their own borders, but give Mexico a pass for building a wall to keep out illegal aliens.

While the rings of security around the United States are not so visually and topologically clear, they are nonetheless real.
Northern border example: Venezuelans need visas to get in the US but not to Canada. Due to 9/11 and Chavez, the flow to the US had to be constricted, so the US asked our canuck neighbors to request visas from Venezuelans. The Canadian border is our exterior border.
Puerto Rico is another route of entry. Dominicans risk their lives crossing the Canal de la Mona (*), once they reach Borinquen (PR) they are home free and on their merry, hopeful way to NYC.

As with many other aspects, the Mexican immigration policy is an extension of our own. We should pray to God that the Mexicans take good care of their border, for it is OUR exterior border. Instead of 20 million, we wold have 40 million or more were it not for our Mexican neighbor-partners.

Mexico if they even are building a border wall, are likely doing this in response to the impending securing of our southern border. They know once we can effectively curb the influx of illegals the ones from Mexico's southern border will start piling up in the sad excuse of a country. To Sheyla - Were you born in this country or did your illegal immigrant parents bring you to America? If you were born here, then there would be no reason that you should be deported. But since you were deported that menas you came here illegally. So tough luck. I feel that Obama and his administration need to clean up this mess and get rid of all the illegals. They are nothing but a waste of AMERICAN tax payers money. They get free health care and food stamps. They take jobs away from Americans. They don't pay any taxes and so they make the economy worse.
And I say this to everyone who comes to America because the situation in their country is deplorable. If things are so bad there, fix it instead of coming here and bad mouthing us for making it that way. There is a gas station owner who is from the Middle East who won't serve anyone in a unifrom becasue of the way the troops have treated his homeland. So instead of fixing it, he comes to the source of his complaints and treats us badly.
This country is in serious need of an overhaul to get things back on track. We need to get rid of ALL illegal immigrants. We need to pull our troops out of hostile territory and bring them home to defend us instead of people who don't really want them there. We need to serious look at where all of our money goes and stop neglegent spending, like giving money to a work-at-home mother of 17 twins to help with BABYSITTING expenses. Or giving disability funds to someone who just doesn't want to work. Seriously!?
And we need to put our foot down that if you are an American citizen, that you are American. not Hispanic-American or African-American or any other *-Americans. The people coming in from the Southern Guatemalan/Mexican border are not intending on moving to Mexico. Mexico is only a midway point to their ultimate destination, the US. You should thank the Mexicans for trying to deter illegal immigration over their border! There are many people from Central and Southern Latin America that are also trying to come to the US illegally, as well as drug trafficking.
But, also, please stop scapegoating these poor and desperate people. Remember what the Statue of LIberty says, "Give us your tired, your poor and hungry." Why does that only hold true for your ancestors and not someone else? Do you seriously think your ancestors came here with immigration papers? Was this land an empty wasteland that they populated peacedfully and legally? I believe in having strong borders, but I think to be angry at the illegal immigrants for doing something that countless poor people have done since the beginning of mankind's history is tremendously ignorant.
My original ancestors didn't have papers because they came here in the 1500's (they were French). Some were slaughtered by the Spanish although their only motivation was to live peacefully with the Indians. They were revolutionaries and fought in the revolutionary war and some were in Washington's first "cabinet". My later ancestors? Yep, sure did have papers. Put their name on a list, waited in line, got on a boat, headed for Ellis Island, got off, got processed, got immunized, then were sent on their merry way to make it on their own with no translators, no social safety net, no NOTHING other than sink or swim. My grandmother was actually put up for adoption when she was 14 months old because her mother was abandoned by her father and couldn't support her. And what of the migrants that couldn't make it? Hop on a boat and go back, simple as that. The ones that did make it? They fought and died in WWI, WWII, Korea, VietNam, etc. Most of us "entitlement" Americans have a long line of blood shed in our past. We have stories of hardship and overcoming odds that would make you blush with embarassment over the fact that you actually have the nerve to come here and USE us to support you. And therein lies the problem. Our families didn't sacrifice so greatly so that we could support YOU, we did it so we could support OUR OWN. We didn't fight and die so that we could open our borders to every Tom, Dick, and Harry who felt like sneaking in.
