Over 400 people showed up at Local 16 in Washington DC to hear the 3rd State Of The Union Address (SOTU) by President Barack Obama. The event co-hosted by more than 15 organizations attracted people from all over the tri-state area. Some of the organizations that sponsored event included: Network For Progress, DC Latino Caucus, Obama 2012-DC, DC Democratic Party, Generation Obama-Washington and the Gertrude Stein Democratic Club.
One of the key organizers of the event was Jim McBride, a media relations professional, grassroots organizer for Obama, and a member of the Arlington Young Democrats. Mr. McBride thought the State Of The Union Address was a good opportunity to get people together and motivated for the upcoming reelection of President Barack Obama. This was the third time this event has been organized in support of President Obama, and the second at the same location. Event goers had the opportunity to sign up on-line and participate in a raffle held at the event. Those that simply showed up at the event were asked for a five dollars donation.
The special guest speaker for the event was Karen Finney, MSNBC Political Analyst & "The Hill" Columnist, but had to cancel her appearance due to unexpected travel. The crowd was greeted by Mr. McBride and a representative from the Obama campaign in Washington DC.
