This tutorial will teach you the crown knot (otherwise known as a lanyard knot) which can serve as the basis of many rope necklace designs. This how-to includes step-by-step photos in the attached slideshow and a video.
The crown knot uses at least four strands of cord and makes a nice thick chain of knots called a sennet.
It is helpful when learning a knot to use at least two colors of rope or cord so you don't mix up where you are in the knot.
To tie the crown knot, hold your four cords in a bunch.
- Cross the first cord over the second cord.
- Cross the second cord over the third cord.
- Cross the third cord over the fourth cord.
- Pull the fourth cord under the first cord.
Pull all of the cords tight and continue with the same four steps to create a chain of knots. It does not matter which cord you start with as long as you cross it over the one next to it in the same order every time.
