Color can be a huge challenge for many a source of anxiety when it comes to a space in your home. The big scare seems to be that you'll hate it once it is on the wall and done. Color should the be fun part in a space decorating project and there are a few tips to assure you will love what you end up with. The key to the perfect color may already be in your home. The key is it is only paint, its not a structural change or a huge commitment. Not to mention painting can often encourage you to change other things in your surroundings and it is a great way to boost your mood and get you loving your home again.
Consider the amount of light the space receives. Believe it or not, light can have a huge impact on what a color can look like. A light filled room can sometimes make a color seem a few shades lighter, sometimes too dark, or bring out underlying tones in the color you did not realize. Solution? Buy a small can of paint and do a trial on the wall that is exposed to the most light. Observe the way light impacts the color through out the day.
Matte vs. Glossy which one works best? Well both have some interesting advantages that can 't be ignored. Regardless of which color you select, matte will hide imperfections but is more difficult to clean, while glossy will cast off glare from other light sources, highlight imperfections in the wall, but be easier to clean. Glossy is extremely handy for dark spaces where there is limit light available because it can help reflect light, and thus lighten the room.
Take a walk about. Your biggest source for inspiration for color comes from you! Many times we fill our homes with things we love and in some cases we do so on a subconscious level. We may not even realize all the reasons we chose different things we love. Walk around your home and see if you can spot a recurring theme going within your décor with regards to color. Is there one or two colors you seem to gravitate towards more than others? Chances are these color could work for you elsewhere. Don't worry if the color seems too dark or too light because you can always go with a variation. With that in mind you should be able to choose a color or a shade of a color you love.
