In the summer of 1997, the Batman film franchise went through a "dark" period with the release of Batman & Robin with George Clooney donning the cape and cowl -- with nipples, which was almost the kiss of death that nearly destroyed the big-screen reputation of the Caped Crusader, who was redeemed, rebooted, and resurrected eight years later thanks to brothers Christopher and Jonathan Nolan, and Oscar winner Christian Bale with Batman Begins in the summer of 2005.
Response of Batman & Robin was mixed from critics and moviegoers with some praising Clooney's portrayal of billionaire industrialist/playboy Bruce Wayne more than him playing Batman, who went from brooding, tragic Dark Knight in director Tim Burton's first two films with Michael Keaton to one similar to the campy, cult 1960s television series from Joel Schumacher, who directed the next two with Val Kilmer in 1995's Batman Forever and Batman & Robin with Clooney two years later.
Clooney, who's up for a Best Actor Oscar for The Descendants, discussed the film on Bravo's Inside the Actors Studio; the clip is found on Yahoo!'s Primetime in No Time.
