House Democrats wasted no time in launching into a coordinated effort to push the Obama gun bans and other firearms restrictions. Although the Democrats made no specific proposals, they rolled out emotionally-charged sob stories that supposedly justify robbing law abiding citizens of their Constitutional rights in order to supposedly address the actions of lawless criminals.
It is clear, however, that House Democrats have every intention of attempting to implement the Obama gun control agenda, which includes bans on semiautomatic guns, large capacity magazines, background checks for ammunition purchases, and a national database of all who purchase guns.
Some political analysts have suggested that the chances of these initiatives passing in a Republican controlled House are next to nil. But with John Boehner as Speaker, can this be considered a reasonable conclusion?
Boehner has shown an alarming willingness to compromise all of the sacred principles conservatives hold dear in order to "cut a deal" or to "meet Obama half way." Each time an important issue presents itself, Boehner has caved.
Some conservatives believe that as long as Boehner remains as Speaker of the House, most if not all of the conservative agenda will be compromised away. This means that he may well cut a deal with Obama to accept some gun bans and control, in exchange for some concessions from Obama.
But such concessions have been nearly non-existent in other cases where Boehner caved. Obama was supposed to accept cuts in spending in exchange for tax increases on the rich. It turns out no spending cuts were agreed to at all. Thus, Obama got everything he wanted without having to concede a thing.
Gun owners fear that Boehner will do the same thing with regard to guns. And if he does he will be just as culpable as the Obama-Democrat jackbooted thugs who will attack the rights of the people at the drop of a hat if it serves to advance their extremist agenda.
