Hong Kong Disneyland held its grand opening ceremony for Toy Story Land, the first of three planned expansions for the Disney Resort on Nov. 17, one day ahead of its official opening.
Toy Story Land, based on the popular Pixar “Toy Story” movies, allows guests to be immersed in the area, enjoying it from the perspective of a toy’s size.
“Today we mark the beginning of another new and exciting chapter at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort with the opening of Toy Story Land, the first of three new themed areas of our expansion project,” said Bill Ernest, President and Managing Director, Asia Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. “For the first time ever, Hong Kong Disneyland Guests can experience the feeling of being shrunk to the size of a toy when they enter Andy’s backyard to play with their favorite Toy Story friends.”
Toy Story Land includes six attractions. In addition to three main attractions – the 80-foot Toy Soldier Parachute Drop, Slinky Dog Spin and RC Racer – the area offers the Toy Soldier Boot Camp, Barrel of Fun and Cubot.

The second part of Hong Kong Disneyland’s expansion plans is Grizzly Gulch, an abandoned mining town set in a Frontierland-like area, is expected to opening in 2012 and be exclusive to the theme parks.
The third themed area, expected to open in 2013, is Mystic Point, will also be exclusive to Hong Kong Disneyland. A rain forest environment in which supernatural event occur, the area will feature the e-ticket attraction Mystic Manor, a Haunted Mansion style attraction with a trackless ride system.
Hong Kong Disneyland’s expansion will expand by theme park by 23 percent when finished, increasing the number of attractions (rides and shows) to more than 100. The expansion is anticipated to cost $468 million.
“The completion of this multi-phase expansion project will not only increase the Park’s physical footprint, it also demonstrates The Walt Disney Company’s commitment to the people of Hong Kong and the continued growth of Hong Kong Disneyland Resort. This enhances Hong Kong’s overall competitiveness as Asia’s top tourist destination,” added Ernest.
The second themed area at Hong Kong Disneyland will be called Grizzly Gulch and it’s scheduled to be completed and opened to the public in 2012. And the Mystic Point themed area is expected to open in 2013.
