Holidays light up the water

The South Florida waterways continue to be transformed into a winter wonderland. While the Midwest and Northeast are facing near chill temperatures and building snowmen, South Florida needs that familiar reminder that it is holiday time once again.

So many fantastic events have been taking place to get us into that holiday spirit. Boat parades have been lighting up the night from Jupiter to Boca Raton, Florida, with brilliant lights reflecting a kaleidoscope of amazing colors across the flat and somewhat serene waters. The west coast of Florida has been just as festive from Naples to Sanibel. Under the light of the moon, merriment is made.

On Saturday, December 7, 2013, Santa paid a visit to some very lucky divers. South Florida Diving Headquarters spread the good cheer wondering who was naughty and who was nice. Santa put aside his Christmas preparations so that he could drop down on a local wreck in South Florida and take part in a bit of bubblemaking. Photographs were taken, lists were read and even holiday music was provided by the Vone Research Team beneath the deep blue sea. Divers who participated brought unwrapped toys which were graciously donated to the Broward Outreach Center.

Perhaps the best boat parade is yet to come this Saturday, December 14, 2013. This is considered the largest boat parade in South Florida and takes place behind The Stranahan House in Fort Lauderdale. The 42nd Seminole Hard Rock Winterfest Boat Parade will bring us the theme 'Passport to Paradise', where cultures collide and create a great place to live, work and play. SNL alumni member, Tracy Morgan, will be the grand marshal this year along with Fort Lauderdale native and Indy Car Champion, Ryan Hunter-Reay. One of the fascinating parts of the parade will be the classic boats that make their way up the Intracoastal decorated in lights. The parade of boats make their 12 mile trek all the way to Pompano Beach with excited onlookers in the water and on the land. If you keep your eyes fixated on the colorful lights, you just may see Santa. To get more details as well as where the best place to enjoy the parade, go to www.winterfestparade.com.

If you want to spend some real quality holiday time on the water, the Serenity III can help you to accomplish that. They are currently featuring the 'Holiday Lights Cruises' taking you leisurely down the waterway beginning at their location in Pompano Beach. Give them a call at (954) 941-3443 to sign up.

We have so much to be thankful for here in South Florida. The water provides a spellbinding escape this and every holiday season.
