Ahead of its first national championship, the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA) will offer coaching specialized to the country's purpose-built Formula 1 track at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. According to a press release issued Monday from SVRA, this instruction will be a featured part of the historic racing group's first SVRA U.S. Vintage Racing National Championship and will take place at the track on Wednesday, October 23, ahead of the race weekend of October 25-27.
According to SVRA, there are over 500 confirmed drivers, most new to COTA, heading to the Austin track next week. Five nationally known instructors will be on hand to help over 75 of those drivers acclimate to the year-old circuit and maximize their performance ahead of weekend qualifying and races. The popular Track Orientation Program consists of briefings and on-track sessions.
The five instructors for this event, whom SVRA says possess "intimate knowledge" of COTA, are: SVRA lead coach, Peter Krause; “Speed Secrets” author and coach, Ross Bentley; renowned racing coach, Peter Argetsinger; Grand-Am race winner and coach, Tom Long; and Grand-Am racer and coach, Jason Hart.
“The fact that few competitors have had the opportunity to drive this incredible track, coupled with the particularly challenging nature of this course, has made this SVRA offering very attractive to competitors,” said Mr. Krause. “Tony Parella, the owner of SVRA, wants us to make sure we deliver the best possible program. With the knowledge, experience and communications expertise present in this team, we know this program will be of great value to SVRA racers.”
Mr. Parella recently purchased the historic/vintage racing organization and has sought to expand its reach to a national level, bringing racers from both coasts and everywhere in between together with opportunities to compete.
SVRA's first U.S. Vintage Racing National Championship will take place October 25-27 at Circuit of the Americas. The event is open to spectators. Ticket information is available at the COTA website.
