"Vintage Motorsport" magazine will sponsor five awards at the first SVRA U.S. Vintage Racing National Championship in Austin, Texas later this month, according to a release from the publication on Friday. "Vintage Motorsport" is the official magazine of SVRA.
According to "Vintage Motorsport," five glass and wood trophies will be presented for Best Pre-War, Best Open-Wheel, Best Production Race Car, Best of Show and Fan Favorite. The categories of Best Pre-War, Best Open-Wheel, and Best Production Race Car will be selected by an expert panel based on "provenance, preparation and performance." The Best of Show award will be selected from "a vote by all the race participants." Participants will receive a ballot in their registration kits. The Fan Favorite award will be determined "from ballots turned in by spectators attending the 650-car event."
Racers, car owners, and fans are invited to submit their votes for awards to the ballot boxes located at the "Vintage Motorsport" display in the Drivers' Lounge in the Media Center at COTA on Thursday and Friday or at the "Vintage Motorsport" location in the paddock vendor area on Saturday or Sunday.
While these awards are for the cars, SVRA itself is giving out "gold helmets" with the championship year on them to race winners in 12 classes over the championship weekend.
SVRA's first-ever U.S. Vintage Racing National Championship will be held at Circuit of the Americas, the new Formula 1 purpose-built track in Austin, Texas, from October 25-27th. COTA's second Formula 1 United States Grand Prix takes place at the track Nov. 17.
