As reported by WCVB.com and the Boston Herald on September 19, 2013, police in Quincy, Mass. are looking for the perpetrators of the horrific torture of an approximately 2-year-old pit bull type little dog, nicknamed Puppy Doe. This precious little dog had to be euthanized because of the extent of her injuries sustained at the hands of heartless monsters, and now the hunt is on for those who did this to her.
Puppy Doe was found on August 31, 2013 by a gentleman who was out walking his dog at the time. She was found still barely alive in some woods near the Whitwell Street playground, located close to the Quincy Medical Center. She was so small, and her injuries so severe, he thought she was a puppy who had been hit by a car, but the reality was that she was around two years old. She had been discarded like a piece of garbage. Once she had been examined, the decision was made by the veterinarian who attended to her that she simply could not be saved, so she was euthanized.
The details of what this innocent puppy endured in her lifetime are beyond heartbreaking. During her necropsy by Dr. Martha Smith-Blackmore from the Animal Rescue League, the shocking facts about Puppy Doe's abuse were uncovered. Dr. Smith-Blackmore was noted in the Boston Herald as saying this was the absolute worst case of animal abuse she had ever seen in her entire career.
She described some of her injuries as if they had been done during Medieval times, with her joints completely separated, leaving her crippled and unable to walk. Her leg bone was broken literally in half from the repeated torture, along with broken ribs, and a fracture in her spine. Her little cheekbones had been shattered. She had been starved, and weighed only 18 pounds when she was found, which is only half what a dog of her type should have weighed. She had injuries from being repeatedly stabbed, beaten, and burned. She had something driven into her right eyeball. What makes it even worse, is that this sadistic torture took place over what was most likely her entire lifetime. She had had a slit cut into her tongue to resemble a snake's tongue. Clearly this precious little girl never new a single moment of love in her entire life until she was found, and by then it was too late to save her.
Someone out there surely knows who is responsible for this horrific torture, and those responsible must be brought to justice. Puppy Doe deserves that much, since humans let her down at every turn while she was alive. In death, advocates must do whatever is possible to find these heartless monsters and make them face the consequences of their actions. It is highly likely that some other animal or even a human is suffering this same abuse at this very moment, and every effort must be made to end this cycle of abuse.

During the last day of Puppy Doe's life, she did know the kind hand of humans, and the feel of good food in her starving body. For just that short time, she did know what love could feel like. The heartbreaking reality is, the rest of her life before that day was spent in fear and agony, with never an ounce of love or kindness given to her. We as advocates owe this puppy justice for what she endured.
Rest in peace precious little Puppy Doe. Advocates will speak out for you now, and help hunt down the monsters who hurt you so badly. Please know that your life mattered.
