The National Weather Service in Chicago has issued an Areal Flood Advisory for much of the Chicago area till 11pm CST tonight. This includes the following counties: In Illinois - Kane, Kendall, McHenry, Will DuPage, DeKalb, Lake, and Cook and Lake county in Indiana.

A developing storm system ejecting out of the Plains and into the Midwest region tonight is accompanied with ample moisture. Rain, heavy at times, is to continue through late this evening. The National Doppler Radar has indicated that up to a quarter of an inch (0.25") of rain has already fallen and according to forecast models, another half to three quarters (0.50"-0.75") is expected to fall tonight. This combined with snow melt could result in flooding especially in areas that have poor drainage or flood prone low lying areas. In addition, there is also a growing potential for area rivers/creeks and ice jam related flooding to rise due to water temperatures resulting in rapid snow melt and moderate to heavy rainfall.
