Heavenly Mountain Resort in Lake Tahoe recently announced the promotion of Sally Gunter to the role of communications manager for the resort effective Sept. 9.
Gunter will be responsible for all communications efforts for the resort including strategic public relations, media relations, internal communications and snow reporting.
“Our communications manager needs to represent the Heavenly brand, and nobody embodies our values of doing good, doing right and having fun quite like Sally,” said Pete Sonntag, Heavenly’s general manager. “She’s a true PR pro who can easily transition from being our primary spokeswoman, to counseling our senior leadership team, to hosting journalists and highlighting everything Heavenly has to offer as the ski industry’s top high-energy mountain.”
Since joining the Heavenly team in December 2011 as the PR coordinator, Gunter has proven to be a top performer and internal leadership candidate. She has grown her involvement in the local community, joining the Leadership Lake Tahoe program, securing a slot in the Epic Volunteer program for her charitable work at Minden-based Kids and Horses, and working to promote the local non-profits Heavenly supports through its Echo charitable giving program.
Prior to moving to Lake Tahoe, Gunter spent five years in the communications department of the Houston Astros, starting out as an intern and working her way up to assistant director of media relations, where she handled all the baseball-related media relations duties and worked with the ballclub’s executives to develop strategies to enhance their business, marketing and community outreach public relations efforts.
Gunter is originally from Claude, Texas, where her family runs a ranch and farm, and attended Texas Tech in Lubbock, where she laid her ski bum roots by taking frequent trips to Taos, New Mexico.
Heavenly will immediately begin the search for a new PR coordinator.
