Heartbreaking news about senior Labrador named 'Manny'

Few dogs of late have garnered as much interest as a senior Labrador retriever named "Manny."

On Thursday, after thousands of concerned people from across the nation worked tirelessly to network his information, news came that he had been saved by the rescue organization, A Purposeful Rescue.

Manny, who had been surrendered by his family on March 10, to the Lancaster, Calif., animal control, was able to walk free from the facility where he had been consumed with fear.

Sadly, after settling into his foster home and enjoying his first secure, peaceful rest in days, he inexplicably passed away.

The rescue agency shared the devastating news on Friday morning:

Manny passed away in his sleep early this morning. On a soft bed with his foster mama on the couch next to him. He just left us-just like that. There was so much more we wanted to show him-a life he probably never even realized existed. Just two nights ago I was on my couch weeping over a video of him in the Lancaster Shelter and was planning an escape route for him. Today he is gone and he has left so many with broken hearts. Honestly, I am still in a bit of shock.

Those who helped coordinate and facilitate Manny's rescue from the facility were thanked and these final words were shared:

I am grateful for everyone who emailed, texted, PM'd, commented, or just loved Manny from afar. Manny touched a lot of people. He was special. The only comfort I have, personally, is that he has a lot of really great friends waiting for him on the other side. Run free sweet boy. xo Hillary

Rest in peace Manny.
