Hayden Panettiere reportedly had some controversy at the 2014 Golden Globes on Sunday night. It wasn't because of what she wore, but how she received it. US Weekly reported on Jan. 15 that the actress reportedly bought her black and white Tom Ford off-the-rack.

Buying your dress for a red carpet event is considered a "fashion faux pas" in the industry. Celebrities usually borrow the dresses they wear for the night. They are also usually personally styled by the designer.

Journalist Jim Shi scoffed on Twitter, "Tom Ford confirms to me he ONLY dressed #NaomiWatts tonight. Hayden Paniettiere BOUGHT her Tom Ford dress at RETAIL. Tsk, Tsk." [SIC] Naomi Watts wore a silver metallic gown by the same designer.

Panettiere is reportedly a big fan of the designer. She loved the dress so much that she wanted it for herself.

The "Nashville" star told Giuliana Rancic on the red carpet,"It's the first time I've ever worn him, because I've been begging...I feel sexy in it, I feel comfortable in it, and I'm in Tom Ford. I would wear a plastic bag if it was designed by him."

Tom Ford loved what she said, so he sent her a bouquet of flowers. Hayden Panettiere tweeted that she received the bouquet along with a message thanking her for what she said about his designs.
