Happy Bill of Rights Day 2013

Today, December 15, 2013, we celebrate the 222nd anniversary of the ratification of the Bill of Rights. The Bill of Rights was established as a check on government. Sadly, however, the Second* of these first Ten Amendments to the Constitution has been treated by government as the Red Headed Step Child**.

Nationally, Democratic and Rino Republicans have historically passed every gun ban they thought they could get away with.

Locally, municipalities like Knoxville and Farragut (which voted 3-2 to keep its ban) have persisted in depriving citizens of this enumerated right to bear arms in their parks and greenways. They espouse the Pollyannaish notion that folks are perfectly safe when visiting parks and greenways.

Tennessee, like most other states in the Union, has gradually eased restrictions on the bearing of arms. But as they eliminate total prohibitions on carrying of arms, they impose such restrictions that the right has become a prohibitively expensive privilege (The illogic of handgun carry permits).

We must be tireless in our efforts to unseat all politicians who, like British Aristocracy of the eighteenth century, think of themselves as our betters.

Contact the Farragut Mayor, and let him know your thoughts.

We must also call out newspaper editors and cartoonists who insist on vilifying legitimate gun ownership and use. These modern day Vichy collaborationists have willfully tramped on the Second Amendment, while cowering behind the First.

*A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

**Treated with dislike, distaste, much the same as a "second class citizen." Less important. Ostracized, at times.(Urban Dictionary)
