Halle Berry has regained her slender pre-baby body just seven months after giving birth to son Maceo (in October 2013). But the Oscar winner hasn't been dieting strictly or working out to excess because she's still breastfeeding.

“When you’re nursing you can’t really diet because you have to keep producing milk,” Berry told People. “Listen, I’m healthy and I’m happy and that’s all that matters.”

Halle, 47, said it has been a lot of work juggling a new baby with getting back in shape and her booming career, but she wouldn't have it any other way. “He's just perfect," said Berry. "More love, more joy — having a new baby in your family brings that."

Halle Has Type 1 Diabetes

Berry is still adjusting to sleep deprivation after Maceo's birth, but it's a process she's enjoying. Halle, who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 1989, follows a low-carb, sugar-free diet that features healthy fats, non-starchy vegetables and high-quality proteins.

Before getting pregnant, the lithe 5-foot-6 brunette stunner typically worked out for 90 minutes, five days a week, doing a routine that combined cardio exercise with cross-training. Berry said she dislikes working out, but does it to keep her diabetes in check.

"I do not love to work out," she said. "But if I stick to exercising every day and put the right things in my mouth, then my diabetes just stays in check."

Halle Follows Low-Carb, Sugar-Free Diet

Berry's longtime trainer, Harley Pasternak, said the Oscar winner eats five small meals a day, which he said regulates blood sugar and insulin levels. Pasternak, author of The Body Reset Diet, also trains Jessica Simpson, Lady Gaga, and Kim Kardashian.

Berry's workouts involve total-body circuit training that target multiple muscles at the same time, like squats, lunges, curl presses and back rows, said Harley, creator of the 5-Factor Workout DVD.

Halle is married to French actor Olivier Martinez. She has a six-year-old, daughter, Nahla, with Canadian model Gabriel Aubry. Berry, who has been a fitness fanatic all her life, said becoming a mom late in life has been a blessing in many ways.

"I'm actually lucky and grateful that I waited until an age when I can really be present [to be a mom]," said Halle. "I saw my mother in her early twenties having two little kids, and I don't think she enjoyed me at two the way I enjoy my daughter. She didn't have that luxury."
