Bohemia Interactive's Dean Hall gave a status update on the "DayZ" standalone project Friday and also answered some community questions where he addressed the possibility of the PC mod conversion appearing on next-gen consoles like the Playstation 4 and Xbox 720.
Hall was asked, "From what we know about next gen consoles so far, would Dayz be possible to run on those machines?"
Personally, yes I believe it would be technically possible. Some of the consoles will be easier than others. There are some issues with requirements for publishers which are really annoying, and I have been frustrated in the past with some of the rules required that force some weird design changes in games (I don’t like tutorials!).
Those requirements are common complaints for developers from both big studios and smaller indie ones alike.
Bohemia Interactive executive producer Jan Kunt previously stated that the studio was looking into bringing "DayZ" to consoles. "We'd probably be stupid not to try to do something similar," he stated in reference to the success of "Minecraft" on the Xbox 360.
With the release of the PS4 and Xbox 720 now looming later this year and the launch of "DayZ" standalone pushed back to some unknown point in 2013, a next-gen release does seem more for the game now. The team would likely not have to worry about compromising on all the new features that are being added as it does a total conversion of "DayZ" from a mod to standalone title.
