‘GTA V’ source code hints that jetpacks might be coming to Los Santos

Rockstar Games has been releasing a stream of new content for Grand Theft Auto V which brings new features to the open-world title. The developer has already announced two additional updates scheduled for this spring, including the launch of co-op heist missions inside GTA Online, in addition to more planned content which will also expand the game single player experience. According to a report by VG247 on April 23, the source code for an upcoming GTA V update was recently leaked which contains references to a jetpack.

If the news turns out to be true, this wouldn’t be the first time that the franchise allowed players to fly around using a jetpack. In fact, the series featured an in-game jetpack the last time that Los Santos was used as the setting. Since Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas included a jetpack within the base game it isn’t a stretch to think that an upcoming update to GTA V might reintroduce the personal vehicle to the franchise.

According the recent supposed leak, the source code for an upcoming Grand Theft Auto V update notes that the jetpack will appear on the characters back and that weapons may be fired from the jetpack using the same mechanic that is currently used by the games parachute physics. The code also contains numerous other file references to the jetpack itself.

Grand Theft Auto V is now available only on Xbox 360 and PS3. No other versions of the game have been officially announced for release on additional platforms at this time. Rockstar Games currently has plans to release many new features for the game in the future. While some will be offered as free title updates, others will become available as future paid DLC packs such as the upcoming single player add-on which will continue the game’s campaign.
