A Greek wine tasting and toga party will be hosted this Friday, March 14th in the Wine Bar at Lukas Liquor Superstore. No stuffy wine tasting here with a lot wine speak or assorted claptrap. No, when you open Greek wines, you have to have a party. Come as you are or dust off that old toga in the closet, throw it over your shoulder and pretend that you're Socrates! As that ancient philosopher was said to remark "For wine does of a truth moisten the soul and lull our griefs to sleep....[and with small cups] we shall ...be brought by its gentle persuasion to a more sportive mood."
You probably still have a bad impression of Greek wines, from that one time your buddy insisted you taste Retsina, that turpentine-like elixir. But now, in the modern age, Greeks have a developed quite a thriving wine industry that produces wines of a very high quality for a very small price. Bargains, in fact.
It's a drop-in, come as you are, come when you like, stand up and walk around tasting, from 6 - 8 p.m. Mark Acuff will be pouring and he will be happy to tell you all you want to know about Greek wines. The nominal cost is $10, with light Greek style appetizers provided, for this leisurely tasting.
