County music fans everywhere are saying "awww" this week with the news of George Strait becoming a grandfather. The country music superstar announced the big news at a concert in Arizona last week, but is keeping mum on the details.
The grandson was born to George Strait's son, George Strait, Jr. and his wife Tamara. George Strait, Jr., who goes by the nickname Bubba, welcomed the boy on February 2nd.
George Strait announced the birth of his grandchild after singing his hit song, I Saw God Today. It seemed King George couldn't keep the happiness bubbling up inside him to himself, but once he made the announcement and received the cheers of the audience, the ever-humble George Strait went right into another song.
Though George Strait, himself, may not be ready for the extra attention connected to becoming a grandpa, the new baby is sure to receive quite a bit of attention for being connected to George Strait. After all, when you're the first grandchild of the man who has recorded almost 60 number one hits and is referred to as the King of Country, you're bound to get just a wee bit of recognition, just by association.
"King" or no "king" though, George Strait seems like the kind of guy who is going to adore just being "grandpa," and as for his fans, it's a pretty safe bet that the new little one in the family might just inspire a few more #1 songs for us to enjoy.
