In news of the odd, a new musical is premiering in New York's theater district which is attempting to tell the story of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ to the pop stylings of sometimes troubled songstress Britney Spears.
The new musical will run for one night, Nov. 7, at Foxwoods Theatre off Times Square on 42nd St. and will be called, “SPEARS: The Gospel According to Britney.” Amazingly, the promo materials ask the question: “Is it the greatest story ever told to the greatest music ever written?” The musical has its own website at http://spearsthemusical.com.
Radio.com reports that the show will use Britney's past hits like “Stronger,” “...Baby One More Time,” “Lucky” and “Crazy” to chronicle Jesus’ life.
Creator Pat Blute says his hope for the show is that it will get people to listen to each other. "So many of the heartaches, loneliness, and miscommunications that we feel are direct results of not listening. We don’t listen to the pleas for help. We don’t hear the desperations of family and friends. But we will eavesdrop."
Blute has already seen his show performed at the Columbia University production of SPEARS last April.
Spears, who just released her newest single "Perfume," is preparing for the release of her next album. She is credited with leading the revival of teen pop in the late 1990s. Now we will see if she is going to be the voice of a revival of a completely different kind through “SPEARS: The Gospel According to Britney.”
