Goodwood officials are reporting good ground conditions for next week’s horse races. Watering will begin on Thursday to maintain those conditions, according to clerk of the course Seamus Buckley. Glorious Goodwood will run from July 31 to August 4.
“We are where we want to be with Glorious Goodwood now less than a week away and the going is good all over. We will begin watering tomorrow to maintain the current conditions,” said Buckley. “We had been forecast a shower on Friday but the chances of this arriving have died away and there is now no rain forecast until Monday and even then it is predicted to be light.”
In other news, Dual Group 1 winner Immortal Verse could make her belated seasonal debut in Sunday’s Prix Rothschild although trainer Robert Collet has yet to formally commit the filly. The daughter of Pivotal will be among seven fillies competing in Deauville.
Racing tipsters and punters will have an eye for Andre Fabre’s Golden Lilac as well as John Gosden’s Elusive Kate. The latter recently placed second in the Falmouth Stakes.
“I'm not yet sure if she'll run because she is a little short of fast work, so we could go directly to the Jacques le Marois or perhaps the Maurice de Gheest,” Collet told racingpost.com earlier this week. “She could still run on Sunday, I'll decide tomorrow morning.”
