Robin Roberts/ AP
Good Morning America's co-host and survivor of breast cancer Robin Roberts, will be a guest announcer at a special Grand Ole Opry appearance in Nashville, Tenn on Oct. 2, 2009.( Check your local listings for air time.) Her goal is to promote research on the disease.
Recall, back in 2007 Roberts first announced her diagnosis.
She will host the special Grand Ole Opry show and introduce acts during the show with a performance from country singer Carrie Underwood, who will take the stage with a pink backdrop to support breast cancer research (opposed to the usual red barn trademark stage).
Other performers set to make a mark on this event are: Terri Clark, Lorrie Morgan, Mindy Smith, and Jo Dee Messina and many more.
This is a great time to support breast cancer research and be part of Roberts' movement. In addition, she has a book titled, "From the Heart: Eight Rules to Live By," which focuses on her life experiences since discovering she had breast cancer.
It is also worth noting, Roberts started as former sports anchor and reporter for local TV station WSMV from 1986 until 1988 and she is a former ESPN star.
Roberts agrees, " Nashville is the place I grew up as a journalist. It gave me the confidence that I really needed to reach my ulitmate goal. People were good to me," she told The Tennessean.
TICKET INFORMATION:

Its great to see positive black people trying to bring awareness to Nashville. It shows us as blacks that this isnt just some country place, there are brillant blacks who havent forgotten you and your community!
This is good information. Maybe people of color will stop hiding and feeling ashame and knowledge they have cancer and seek treatment. Early detection is the key, not pretending it will go away or ignoring the obvious. This is our life and knowledge is the key to fight.
