‘Ghost’ Dorner provides cautionary tale as ‘black community’ seeks answers

They seek him here. They seek him there. Those Frenchies seek him everywhere. Is he in Heaven? Is he in hell? That damned elusive Pimpernel. -- “The Scarlet Pimpernel”

If you listen to his social media fanboys and girls from the “progressive” left, fugitive ex-LAPD multiple murder suspect and “gun control”/Obama/Piers Morgan-supporter Christopher Dorner is a latter-day Sir Percy Blakeney, righting wrongs and sticking it to “The Man” in the name of social justice and anti-racism. As with the fictional Blakeney, “stretched to the limit” authorities have had no idea where to look or who to turn to until today’s big break, where he is reported to be barricaded in a mountain cabin. Perhaps, and it looks like we may find out soon, he has even now entered the aforementioned afterlife, where panicked, trigger-happy “Only Ones” almost sent a pair of newspaper delivery women, without so much as identifying their targets -- let alone determining if they posed a threat (a presumed violation of the law, if not accepted police procedures).

“It is important, up front, to remind ourselves of what we don't know at this stage about Christopher Dorner's one-man guerrilla war against the LAPD,” Mike Vanderboegh of the Sipsey Street Irregulars blog wrote in a post today before the late-breaking developments. “He may be lying dead, frozen up in the mountains. He may be lying low in a hideaway in South Central, awaiting his next chance to strike. It is this ‘ghost in the machine’ that has gripped the imaginations of the LAPD and motivated them to shoot up innocent newspaper delivery ladies and make other panicky moves that telegraph just how shaken they are by the fact that one of their "Only Ones" is doing this to them. The law enforcement bureaucracy likes to believe that they, personally, are untouchable. Dorner has proven the lie and it scares the bejeezus out of them.

“One man -- ONE MAN -- has for almost a week frightened and tied up the law enforcement resources of an entire state (and I'm sure the Feds are making their contributions behind the scenes too),” Vanderboegh observed. “This is a cautionary tale for any citizen disarmament advocate who blithely assumes (as stupidly as the LAPD was last week) that the ‘authorities’ are up the challenges of the 4GW civil war that their appetites seem bent upon creating.

“If the ghost in the LAPD machine teaches anything, it is that the resources of the modern surveillance police state are not even up to the challenge of one madman, let alone a determined, thinking minority,” Vanderboegh concluded

In the mean time, another minority, “Los Angeles's African-American community is casting a skeptical eye on [the] decision Saturday to reopen the investigation into the 2008 firing of … Dorner,” The Christian Science Monitor is reporting. “Twenty years after the Rodney King riots deep distrust remains, with some community leaders saying the Los Angeles Police Department cannot be trusted to investigate itself -- and that perhaps even the U.S. Justice Department should be called in.”

“We don’t agree with Dorner’s tactics, but many of us sympathize with his allegations,” says one activist.

“Having the LAPD conduct an internal investigation is like asking Bonnie to investigate Clyde,” says another.

By all means, with this level of historic and current mistrust for the department, both perceived and earned, a thorough and fair investigation into the truth of Dorner’s allegations about police misconduct and brutality is crucial, although Eric Holder’s Justice Department hasn’t exactly proven to be the go-to agency for truthful legal inquiries. And it’s curious -- certifiably bipolar, actually -- that a community so suspicious of police conduct and motives would also be among the most ardent in insisting that department should enjoy a monopoly of violence as the “Only Ones” trustworthy enough to bear arms “on the streets.”

And as for the ghost in the machine?

Is he dead? Or is he cornered? That damned elusive ex-cop Dorner…

Wouldn’t it be something if the networks broke in on tonight’s State of the Union speech to let us know Obama’s anti-gun admirer has at last been taken, one way or the other?
