Georgetown's Club Monaco closes this Friday

The trend in Georgetown retail turnover continues as M Street's Club Monaco officially closes this Friday. Club Monaco, best known for its girly chic getups, has been an M Street staple to students and visitors alike.

The store currently has a limited inventory and will be shipping off any remaining items to neighboring Club Monaco locations. Luckily for the Georgetown shopper, everything in the store is and will be 70% off until the store's close on Friday. Of course, as any bargain hunger knows, this can be a blessing and a curse in that while the deals are bigger, the crowds are bigger. The store has seen high traffic this week and has experienced steady sales.

Says Associate Manager Clayton Maupin, "The community is sad that we'll be leaving, but they are hopeful that we'll be coming back into the area down the road." While nothing has been confirmed, the store does not seem to be ruling out the possibility of changing homes within the neighborhood.

Club Monaco is to be replaced by clothing brand All Saints, a look not altogether different from Club Monaco but perhaps more bohemian, more "I'm not trying to look as good as I do." This fits in with the birth of trendy-casual in Georgetown, as Madewell came to replace Puma, and Rag & Bone will soon come to replace MAC. This marks then a transition in D.C. style that could be considered more economical, and hopefully even more fun.
