Gal Gadot has started a grueling workout program to play Wonder Woman in the upcoming film, "Batman vs. Superman."
"[I'm doing] a very serious training regimen — kung fu, kickboxing, swords, Jujutsu, Brazilian," Gadot told Batman News Dec. 26. "I'll gain body mass."
Gal is no stranger to tough workouts, having been a fitness trainer in the Israeli army for two years. She laughed off criticism that she's too skinny to play Amazon princess Wonder Woman, saying her lean body type represents a modern, athletic look.
"I represent the Wonder Woman of the new world," said Gadot, 28. "Breasts — anyone can buy for 9,000 shekels. By the way, Wonder Woman is Amazonian, and historically accurate Amazonian women actually had only one breast. So, if I'd really go 'by the book' it would be problematic."
Before going into the army, Gal won the Miss Israel beauty pageant in 2004, which launched her modeling career. The willowy 5-foot-9 Gadot previously said she swears by a healthy diet and regular exercise, which includes yoga and Pilates workouts.
"I’m a big fan of a good diet and healthy lifestyle," she said. "It's important to eat a lot of vegetables, drink a lot of water, and stay active. I believe that what we put in our bodies will reflect on the outside."
Gadot is married to Yaron Varsano, a Dutch-Israeli hotelier, and has a two-year-old daughter, Alma. She said her agent swore her to secrecy when she was first cast as Wonder Woman. Not surprisingly, having to keep such a big secret was hard since she wanted to shout the news from the rooftops.
I'm saying to her 'Are you serious?!' and we both scream! Now I'm on a plane from Israel to New York and I can't make loud noise, and so I lean on a window, bending down to my legs, and just try to understand. I was totally alone in New York.
I got to a hotel at 12 pm and I needed to wake up in the morning for [a photo shoot]. I remember lying in the darkness by myself, staring at the ceiling, and I was telling myself, 'It's not real!''
