On Tuesday, Crisp County (GA) sheriff's deputies made a routine traffic stop on I-75 after they observed a vehicle swerving near Exit 97.

The driver, Amberto Quintero Salas, 30, was given a field sobriety test, which he failed, according to deputies.

When deputies attempted to take him into custody, Salas ran across the highway and "was last seen headed westbound into the wooded area on Allen Rd," CCSO said in a statement.

WALB reported:

Our K-9 tracking team was deployed and we also were assisted with DNR and their K9 and we tracked him for approximately four hours but were still unable to locate the driver," said Sgt. Ben Bray, Crisp County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies have determined that Salas is in the country illegally from Mexico.

The passenger, identified as Ulises Perez Diaz, is also an illegal alien, and is reportedly awaiting deportation proceedings.

Salas is described as 5'9'' tall and weighs approximately 150 pounds. He was last seen wearing blue jeans with a striped shirt and a gray hooded sweatshirt. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of this fugitive is asked to call the Crisp County Sheriff's Office at 229-276-2600.
