Tasty or terrible... the votes are in. Scorpion pizza, crocodile sliders, tequila fries, deep-fried cheesies, and deep-fried donut bacon cheeseburgers are just a few of the creative and new fun foods available at the Calgary Stampede Midway food vendors during the 102nd annual Calgary Stampede.
The Calgary Stampede is best known for its western theme, rodeo events and its midway, especially the food. The most unusual food offering this year was the scorpion pizza featuring large, visible, cooked whole scorpion insects on top. Defying logic, the Calgary Herald reports that the scorpion pizza topping has now sold out and is being ordered in with a promised return date of July 10th. In the meantime, those hungry for the crunchy taste of bugs can try a piece of mealworm and cricket pizza instead.
Thai noodle wraps were announced as the winner of the Best New Food on the Midway at the Sneak-a-Peek Calgary Stampede preview event on July 3rd. Wrap Daddy`s Thai noodle wraps are made with beef or chicken, vegetables, noodles, sweet and savoury Thai sauce, wrapped and garnished with fresh bean sprouts and sprigs of cilantro.
