Aubrey, Texas has never been known for its great restaurant scene. This is because there isn't one. However, one tiny little exception emerges as a bonafide culinary success in this sleepy north Texas horse and ranch town. While the name and service may not garner such high marks, at Lucy's Moms on Main, the food most certainly does.
This is small town home cooking at its best. Located at 204 South Main Street in "downtown" Aubrey, a single historic building of four or so stores, the ambience couldn't be more apropos. Just walk up to the counter and order from the giant blackboard overhead. Offerings include chicken fried steak, grilled or fried pork chops (which are terrific), and their signature take on meatloaf, playfully named Mooloaf.
The standouts here are the location, the small-town decor, and their absolutely unrivaled fried okra. As for the lows? Consistency can be spotty, as can be the service. While we wish a more traditional menu and tablecloth style of dining takes place at Lucy's Moms on Main rather than the walkup do-it-yourself type approach, the restaurant is a great getaway from the DFW hustle and bustle, located only a tollway ride north to the 380 corridor.
