The calendar says it's May, but here in West Michigan, it's been feeling more like March.  So you may still get some use out of this scarf project!  This design is called Rachael's Granny Square Scarf, as it was designed as a gift for my friend Rachael's birthday.  It's a great stash buster project, even of it is slightly out of season.

The block used for constructing the scarf is called the Triple X square, a granny square named for its center "X" pattern constructed from triple crochet.

The finished scarf shown was crocheted in worsted weight yarn with a size G hook and measures about 4 1/2 feet long.  Finished size will depend on your yarn selection, hook size, and tension.  Adjust length by adding or removing squares before edging.

Rachael's Scarf Crochet Pattern

Start by crocheting 13 triple X granny squares.

Choose a color to use as a border around the squares.  Sl st into the side of one of the squares and dc in each stitch around sides;  at corners, ch 3 (do not stitch into corner spaces).

Once all of the squares are edged, sew them together end-to-end using the border color yarn.

Using the same color yarn, sl st in anywhere along the sides.  Dc in each dc around; at ch spaces where two squares meet, dc 2 in each ch space; at corners of scarf, working in ch space, dc 3, ch 1, dc 3.  Work all the way around and sl st into first stitch in round; fasten off.

Choose a color for the outer border.  Sl st in anywhere along the sides.  Dc in each dc around; at corners, in the center 4 of the 6 dc and ch from the previous round, dc 2.  Continue around and sl st into first stitch of round.  Feasten off.

Weave in all ends; wrap around neck!
