Four suspects have been arrested in connection with the homicide last week of 20-year-old Felipe Reyes, Watsonville police reported on Thursday.
Officers responded to the area of Lincoln and Prospect streets on a report that a group of males were chasing another man. The victim had been stabbed, according to witness reports. Police arrived to find Reyes lying on his back and suffering from multiple stab wounds. The suspects had last been seen fleeing south on Lincoln Street and an immediate search of the area turned up nothing. Paramedics worked to save Reyes, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say they developed evidence that led them to the identities of four suspects in the case. In the early morning hours of March 2, investigators arrested two juveniles. Search warrants were issued and police collected numerous items of evidence connecting the teens to the crime.
Today, police announced the arrest of two additional suspects, Oscar Vaga Vargas and a third juvenile are also being charged with homicide. The case has been classified as being drug related.
Police are releasing few details about their investigation, but are thanking the public and the Santa Cruz County Gang Task Force for their assistance in the case.
