As a martial arts instructor you have been given a special calling, a mission worth every drop of sweat you will shed. You have the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of your students. Don't miss the opportunity to teach while you train for yourself. A good martial arts instructor continues to train for themselves, striving to always be learning and growing so that they may pass that new knowledge on to their students. A truly great instructor will make their training transparent to their students, sharing with their students both the success and failure.
In sharing your training, its high points and its low points alike, you open up new opportunities to mentor and guide your students. Your training should serve as a guide to how your students should train, lead them to push their limits by pushing your own. If your students never see you train they lose the ability to learn from your example. Showing students that you are not perfect isn't a weakness, it is a strength. When a student sees their instructor struggle and overcome challenges they become inspired to overcome their own struggles, inside and outside of your school.
Train transparently. Share the journey you are going through with your students. Let them learn not just form your words, but also from your actions, your dedication, your perseverance.
