Auburn, AL - Five innocent puppies perished in a fire which was purposefully set last week.
Shockingly, the man accused of the arson is 23 yr-old Hal David Moore, an Auburn firefighter and student at Auburn University.
According to Pet-Abuse.com, Moore broke into his ex-girlfriend's home and set her bed on fire.
The resulting fire created enough smoke inside of the residence that all of the puppies, who had been in bathroom, died from smoke inhalation.
Their mother, a Cocker spaniel, survived.
Friends of Moore's believe that his destructive actions may have been spurred by jealousy.
Regardless of his motive, the outcome is devastating.
Moore was arrested and taken to the Lee County Detention facility where he was held on an $18,500 bond.
According to the report, after Moore posted bail, he called his ex-girlfriend to apologize, telling her that he didn't know what he was thinking.
Rest in Peace to all of the innocent lives who were lost in the fire.
