Yoshinori Kitase has provided some details regarding the Fabula Nova Crystallis mythos. On an interview with Shack News on Oct. 24, the producer of “Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII,” stated that the series of games will move on even though the story of “Final Fantasy XIII” will be completed.
Yoshinori Kitase disclosed that Lightning’s story should end with the plot of “Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII.” However, the Fabula Nova Crystallis mythos will still serve as “the backbone” of the upcoming “Final Fantasy XV.” You can check out some screenshots of both titles in the slideshow near the top of this article and the statement from Yoshinori Kitase below (courtesy of Shack News):
In the mythos, there are various gods and settings that are within that storyline. But in terms of the XIII series that pertains to Lightning, that world will definitely come to an end. But the overall Fabula Nova Crystallis, they are the backbone of games like Type-0 and Final Fantasy XV. We don't believe Fabula Nova Crystallis will end with Lightning Returns. Fabula Nova Crystallis is still existing.
The Fabula Nova Crystallis series featured “Final Fantasy XIII,” “Final Fantasy Agito XIII” and “Final Fantasy Versus XIII.” Although “Final Fantasy XIII” was released with its name intact in 2010, Square Enix decided to change the titles of the other two software products. As a result, “Final Fantasy Agito XIII” became known as “Final Fantasy Type-0” while “Final Fantasy Versus XIII” was re-introduced as “Final Fantasy XV” earlier this year.
Despite the name change, the 15th numbered entry into the “Final Fantasy” franchise will still be based on the Fabula Nova Crystallis mythos.
