Trick or treating isn’t the only way to have fun this Halloween weekend. The 10th Annual Camm Slamm will offer filmmakers and film viewers a good time too.

Your Baltimore Performing Arts Examiner S. Ann Johnson chatted with this year’s Camm Slamm host Bryan “Grasshopper” Robinson about what you can expect at this year’s competition.

“It’s a battle of filmmakers’ wit and agility with a camera,” said Robinson.

Robinson, owner of Grasshopper Philms, is a repeat winner of Camm Slamm. He says this is his first year since the competition’s existence that will NOT be behind the camera. This year, he’s the host.

“For those not familiar with CAmm Slamm, it’s a 10-year strong filmmaker’s challenge,” he said. “In 48 hours, give or take a few, teams of filmmakers meet at the Creative Alliance of Movies Makers headquarters aka The Patterson Theater on a Friday. They sign in and are introduced for the first time to a MYSTERY PROP that must appear in every film. They then have from Friday night to the upcoming Sunday--7 p.m. sharp--to return their completed film. The films are picked from a hat to determine order and are all screened before an audience and a panel of judges inside the theater.”

Filmmakers, it’s not too late to sign up. It costs just $75 to enter as a walk-in contestant. You must arrive at Creative Alliance by Friday, October 28, 7 p.m. to compete.

Those interested in being an active audience member can attend the viewing party this Sunday, October 30, 8 p.m. at The Patterson/Creative Alliance, 3134 Eastern Avenue , Baltimore , MD 21224. Doors open at 7 p.m. Screening admission is $12 for general public and $7 for Creative Alliance members, students, cast & crew.
