Al Quinn was born in New York City and raised in Brooklyn. Quinn, after being discharged from the U.S. Navy and under the GI bill, studied at Ben Bards Drama School in Hollywood, California. He studied eight hours a day and showcased every weekend.
The following is a Q&A with Mr. Al Quinn touching but only a few of his massive experiences in film, theater and television, not only as an actor but as a voice artist and song and dance man - a triple threat!
Mr. Quinn, looks like you have an extensive acting background, but what acting training and experience have you had that stands out in your mind, including those you have had more recently?
By the way, call me Al, if you don't, I will have to 'Trow [throw] you a beatin.'
Okay, I have studied with Lori Wyman, Dolly Legg Voiceover and Tom Logan On-Camera. My experiences date back to my early school years. I often would audition for plays and sang at The Assembly. I have worked in countless movies and many commercials, been a lookalike to Bob Hope, and have been in several television movies and soap operas.
I am very familiar with stage productions and am currently working in the road show of "Joey and Maria Italian Comedy Wedding" as father of the groom."
Al, where has your support come from, if any, in this crazy business of entertainment, and are there any travels you have taken along the way due to your work in the biz?
Support has come from my many friends and family. I have traveled many miles for auditions and have worked gigs all the way from Hollywood, CA. ~ Miami ~ New York ~ Puerto Rico and Europe, most of those travels involved commercials and movies."
Any disappointments along the way?
Yes, there have been some disappointments, but overall I love all the things I have done and hope I have brought some pleasure to audiences both in theaters and to television viewers everywhere."
Al, to get this far I suppose you have had hundreds of castings?
Castings? I can't count how many I have gone to."
And, Al, what about the actors you have worked with, any of them we would know?
Yes, I have worked with some of the nicest actors and some not so nice. The three nicest that stand out the most are: Jeff Goldblum, Cameron Diaz, and most of all was Andy Garcia who was especially nice to me when I was sweating in the hot sun while shooting, For love of country. Another was Gloria Estefan."
Have you received any awards for your acting?
I have received several awards, two for my Voiceover Acting, two for Best Supporting Actor, one for Best Leading Actor, and one as the President of FMPTA (Florida Motion Picture & Television Association), and I also received an award for Founder of UFTA (United Film & Television Artists)."
Al, are you a union member or eligible?
Yes, I am a SAG (Screen Actors Guild) actor and have been, for the second time, chosen to be on the SAG Nominating Committee."
From the looks of Al Quinn's credentials, training and experiences, he has been a busy actor in the areas mostly of stage, film and telelvision, and will continue to be active - enjoying each and every role that comes his way.
