February is about all matters attributed to Aquarius, and later Pisces. Several weeks into the Pisces season we will have to retrace our early steps backwards as the communication planet Mercury, retrogrades in the sign ruling the 12th house (Pisces) of the zodiac. But, first Aquarius.
We begin the second month of 2013 with three planets in Aquarius-the sign ruling the 11th house of the zodiac representing groups and the collective. Aquarius is about opening up our mind to new ideas and ideals and new ways of approaching things. It is ruled by Uranus, the planet associated with cutting edge inventions and ideas, revolutions, lightening, spacecraft, and technology to name a few. Since Aquarius ties in to the the 11th house you may find yourself involved with business groups or personal groups as well. It is a fixed sign, so the energy moves slowly and once decisions are reached they are usually final. Venus enters Aquarius February 3, along with Mercury and the Sun, and Mars is the first planet to enter Pisces on February 1.
As the fast moving planets that control our day to day life and activities (Sun, Mercury, Mars, Venus) enter Pisces energy changes and becomes softer. Pisces planets will work well for water and earth signs but may seem emotional and nebulous for fire signs.
The God of War and the planet of action (Mars) enters Pisces February 1, and motivation to ‘make things happen,’ may become weaker, and you may experience lower energy. Pisces energy is flowing, not aggressive or assertive. Mars conjuncts Neptune February 2-4, and this creates fog in the literal sense and the metaphorical as well. Mars-Neptune often relates to situations that involve water or flooding, and personal vision can become limited or distorted. Lies may be told or situations uncovered you do not expect. It is a discouraging transit, but can work well for spiritual or creative pursuits. Subsequently, Mercury and the Sun will conjunct Neptune also as they enter Pisces, creating foggy unclear situations as well. Neptune is the planet of illusion, delusion and confusion, and this can include self delusion. Mercury conjuncts Neptune February 6-7, and the Sun conjuncts Neptune February 20-21. Venus conjuncts Neptune February 28. All Neptune transits can be confusing, discouraging, and there can be an element of unclarity, or sometimes mistruths.
Overall though, Pisces is a sensitive sign and should bring some compassion to the world. Creativity, psychics, and metaphysics of all types will fare well during this period that goes into March. February 27-March 12, both Venus and Mars are together in Pisces and these two don’t dance so closely often. This opens the door for single water sign individuals (or earth) to meet someone special during this short period. It is especially good for Pisces, and even more so for Scorpio, as Mars and Venus will be together in your fifth house of love affairs!
During this period of Pisces the key is to stay focused and grounded. Pisces is ruled by the delusional planet Neptune, and Pisces is not generally positive in terms of world conditions. Let us never forget the Salem witch trials occurred when Neptune was in Pisces, and during other times Neptune in Pisces led us to the U.S. Civil War and the plague. Conditions of suffering were widespread during those periods. If any part of humanity is enslaved by conditions or false ideologies, so are we all.
Jupiter went direct January 30, and as the planet of abundance moves forward we can expect various situations to move forward as well, especially those involving money. Of course, it really depends on what is going on in your natal chart. This does not mean you should expect a windfall, but overall, conditions should improve.
Jupiter sextiles Uranus, bringing unexpected opportunities for some if it is well aspected in your chart, especially Gemini, Aries and Libra.
As Jupiter also squares Neptune in February this will contribute to wetter weather conditions, fog and even flooding in some areas. Jupiter-Neptune situations relate to disappointment, daydreaming, fraud, delusional attitudes, secrets and secret relationships that can be revealed, careless spending, and situations or relationships that can dissolve. Investments can go south, so be careful. It is positive for creativity and spiritual pursuits. Mutable signs should especially be aware of this influence: Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces. This period will last until Jupiter begins to move by degree forward late February-March.
Jupiter-Neptune relates to infectious diseases and I expect a great deal of sickness to occur overall in February. Another virus has been discovered, and it is not impossible more could be on their way. This situation may be worse around the time of the full moon February 25. Take care!
Pisces is often connected to drug and alcohol abuse. Those with the propensity to abuse or over use will become worse during the period of Sun, Mercury and Mars in Pisces. This can include prescription as well as illegal drugs. As an astrologer friend of mine says, ‘astrology does not differentiate legal or illegal drugs.’
Other transits of significance in February include:
February 6-7, Venus trines Jupiter and this is a positive time for any type of social activity. On occasion it can be a significant day and you could meet someone of importance. February 8, Mercury conjuncts Mars. This is a transit that can bring irritation, arguments and accidents. If you can contain the energy it is a good day for debates or discussions, but it could easily become heated.
The New Moon falls at 21 degrees of Aquarius, February 10, at 2:20 A.M. EST. Aquarius is the 11th house rule of groups and organizations. On the same day, Venus squares Saturn and Mars squares Jupiter over the next several days. Because of these aspects, it may seem more like a full moon. Mars-Jupiter tends to blow things out of proportion and Venus-Saturn transits don’t bode well for intimate relationships. Some relationships that are troubled may come to an end, and it may seem difficult to relate to others. Money matter may be relevant this day as well.
February 18, the Sun enters Pisces, and Saturn goes stationary retrograde. Saturn retrogrades for about 6 months every year, and the stationary retrograde period is the most important, especially if it is aspecting something in your natal chart at 11 degrees of Scorpio. Saturn will go stationary direct at 4 degrees on July 8. During a retrograde Saturn period activities and events slow down in the area ruled by Saturn in your natal chart. During the retrograde period it is important to go back and reassess projects and responsibilities started in the past. It is advisable not to start a new business during a retrograde Saturn period. If you were born with a retrograde Saturn you may find it difficult to say no in the area ruled by Saturn in your chart.
Mercury goes stationary retrograde at 19 degrees of Pisces on February 23 at 4:41 a.m. EST. The stationary retrograde period is the most important part of the cycle, along with the stationary direct period at the end of the cycle. This is when the Mercurial energy seems to go haywire, and glitches begin to occur. The retrograde Mercury period is associated with all types of calamities, and you are well advised not to marry, start new jobs or businesses or buy high ticket items. Mercury retrograde is a period of revisiting and recessing what is already on the table. Sometimes we can connect with those from the past. Mercury will officially go direct on March 17 at 5 degrees of Pisces.
Mercury retrograde is actually a much longer cycle than most people consider. There is actually a shadow period both before and after the cycle begins and ends. The shadow period of this retrograde starts on February 9, and Mercurial energy will slowly begin to alter. As Mercury retrogrades in the sign ruling the 12th house of the zodiac, we may experience many epiphanies and events we were unaware of may be uncovered during this cycle.
February’s full moon occurs on February 25 at 7 degrees of Virgo at 3:26 p.m. EST. On this day Venus also enters Pisces. This full moon holds the potential to accomplish much, or alternatively some may experience it as negative due to the Virgo tendency toward criticism. Criticism can be a positive thing in the right context of correcting an issue. You could give or receive criticism on this day, so best to remember the difference between constructive criticism and nagging and complaining, especially with retrograde Mercury. Virgo is the natural ruler of the sixth house of health and work, and it is here many of us will be focused. Events connected to the full moon may be delayed due to the retrograde, and I have seen this happen many times in the past. This moon opposes Neptune giving it the potential to be negative, tiring, and not all may be as it appears. Tap into the spiritual energy of Neptune and you may soar to great heights, experience insights and creative energy can be high. Tap into the negative side of things and you may be discouraged, unhappy and tired.
February 26, Mercury conjuncts Mars for the second time this month at 19 degrees of Pisces and Mercury is retrograde. Seldom do we have a transit like this repeat itself, but Mercury and Mars are both in Pisces moving along at a good pace. To get a feel of this energy go back to February 8. Mercury-Mars is an accident or fight waiting to happen, and it is irritating energy. Mars rules guns, and we may hear news relating to guns, police or the military. As Mercury is retrograde we will likely hear of something relating to the past and it could be an issue resurfacing from around February 8.
February 28, Venus conjuncts Neptune and this transit holds dual potential. On one hand it could be romantic and magical. On the other hand it could be disappointing and you should not make long term decisions about relationships or business matters today. In terms of relationships all may not be what it seems. Neptune rules illusion and romance is after all a happier form of illusion. Give things a few days before you make a decision about your romantic life or money matters. You could hear of a scandal and likely we will hear of one in the news. Do you love astrology or are you curious about how it works?
